This project was part of an interview. The designer screening process included a series of tests for communication skills, problem solving ability, and raw intelligence, in addition to technical design screenings and a sample design project. For this sample, I should redesign a popular music platform.
After round three I was given one week of time to finish a "real world project" involving a webapp redesign,logo, branding, and of course UX/UI design. Just like engineers, designers must also be fully capable of estimating project completion time, understanding deliverables, and bringing it all together with the highest level of professionalism and quality.
A new, up-and-coming band called “Hear is Now” is promoting their first single on a new and popular music streaming platform. The music streaming platform wants to direct their users to listen to Hear is Now’s first single, as well as allow their users to discover similar music in the genre.
Design the music platform’s player, with focus on branding of the music platform, as well as Hear is Now’s first single album artwork. Design the discovery elements associated with the music platform. Expectation: Deliver a rough style guide and look and feel for the player element of the music platform, as well as the discovery element along with explanations of your design and decision making process.
Typefaces bring personality to the brand, they give real character and transmit the values of the company. Imaginatively used, the fonts can express emotions and create sensations. It has been selected as the main typography the Avenir family in its different versions.
Avenir was created in 1988 by Adrian Frutiger.
The overall look and feel should be dark. It would also be annoying to any user to have a white background in a "music player" context. The color palette looks like this:

For this project the right thing to do was to generate an isotype that would represent well the entire app. Playing around with forms of classic play and stop buttons and also reminding the idea of a twist/spin, and so I started to combine shapes.
The main goal of this piece is to create a symbol that identifies the brand transmitting the values that define it. The proposed logo for the project presents simple and geometric, looking playful and emphasizing the idea of spinning.
Basic UI Kit
The user interface should be simple, without elements that can distract or annoy the target audience. Transitions and animations will be added to generate a smooth experience.
To differentiate it from the competition, a graph simulating the movement of a musical-wave was added to the player bar. There's also focus on the proper display of the new album of the band "here is now", so the main feature of this view will be "discover", allowing users to see new releases, top charts listened by their friends and also top trending albums. At this point users could favorite, save or follow songs, albums, artists and playlists. They can also create new playlist and play radios based on previously liked songs.
