Identity system for the Play Next project. Devised by Matias Olivera, this app is designed to automate the selection of music from a playlist (in this case, a room) via a public voting system.
Users will use the application mainly in dark places, like clubs, pubs and parties, so if we think in terms of saving device battery, the overall look and feel should be dark. It would also be annoying to any user to have a white background in a context in which their views are accustomed to the darkness. The color palette looks like this:
#321933 #9e005d #ed1e79 #dfff99 #f7ffe6
For this project the right thing to do was to generate an isotype that would represent well the entire app. Playing around with forms of classic play and stop buttons and also with the letter N, as if there were only one song and users to vote again and again, would play n times the music or playn, and so I started to combine the shapes with letter N, until I reached the right position.
After defining the final shape of the playn I added the rest of the -next- words so we can use the full logo in larger workspaces and the isotype in smaller ones.
The application was designed to solve a problem with a DJ. That guy wasn't updated with the latest songs and that party had to rock! So we developed a beta version in order to use it the day of the party. As there was no time to advertise, flyers and posters were made so people at the party knew they could vote for songs on the DJ's playlist.
